Istanbul is a wonderful, dynamic and vibrant city, and there is so much that I look back on with love and gratitude about my time living there.
One thing that will stay with my forever is the music. The thing that made my weekends pop in Istanbul was listening to the parties thrown by Radio Eksen at Roxy and Babylon. Every Saturday morning, before I’d even entirely woken up, I would blearily open one eye, and with whatever energy I could muster I would turn on the radio and tune in to Radio Eksen. At the other end of the scale, I would constantly struggle to get to bed on a Sunday night, as I just wanted to listen to one more song, a few more minutes. I always struggled to turn off the radio, which shows how much fun I got out of the Radio Eksen parties. These days, in London, I still stay in touch with this time in my life through Spotify playlists.
Radio Eksen made you feel like you were a part of the party wherever you were tuning in from. Their sets were eclectic and diverse, ranging from indie rock and ska, through to punk and hip-hop. Whatever they were playing, their selections were guaranteed to keep me dancing all night long.
This was one of the best times of my life. Thank you, Radio Eksen, for all those special moments.
