Famous sayings can be curious things. Some great sayings are universal – powerful, profound, and with a resonance that transcends the time or the context in which they are said. Sometimes however, you come across a quote, a phrase, or just something that someone has said in passing, and it speaks to you and your experiences in an unexpected way.

For me, the wisdom of others has been a huge help at many points in my life. Great minds from history have a lot to teach us, and words and thoughts that echo down the ages can shape and influence behaviour, or provide solace or comfort during hard times.

Here are a few of the most inspirational quotes to live your life by that I have come across, and the ones that have had the most profound impact on me and my life. I try to live by the wisdom and knowledge that they impart, and I hope that maybe some of them might be useful for you too. Some of them are from towering historical figures, while some are just wonderful thoughts I’ve picked up from friends, from things I’ve read, and from social media.
