Music has a unique capacity to enrich the soul, and bring emotion, joy, and melancholy into people’s lives. I wanted to share a little piece of one of my great musical loves, and hopefully share some of the same inspiration that she’s brought to me.
It is astonishing to think that Marianne Faithfull has been recording music for over fifty years. She was born in Hampstead in 1946, and recorded her first record when she was only 16 years old.
Years ago, I heard her first release, “As Tears Go By”, and it touched my heart. I’ve been fascinated by her music, and her incredible talent, ever since. Beautiful, an actress and a musician, her words and melodies have always raised my spirits, helped me enjoy the good times, and kept me going during those times that weren’t quite so good.
It has been years since I first heard “As Tears Go By”, and first started my love affair with Marianne Faithfull’s music. It’s never gone away…but quite recently it was dramatically rekindled, when I heard her version of “I Get Along Without You Very Well”. Dark, dramatic, mournful and oh so very beautiful, this song is absolutely making my day at the moment, so I wanted to share with you, in the hope that it might make yours.
